The device does not have to be functional or capable of emitting light, it need only resemble a blue warning beacon.

These blue reflectors look like the LED lights fitted to genuine emergency service vehicles.

Consider the offence of impersonating a police officer.

Section 90 of the Police Act 1996 creates several offences (summary only) relating to the impersonation of police officers, including:

• Impersonating a police officer.
• Making a statement or doing any act calculated falsely to suggest membership of a police force.
• Wearing a police uniform calculated to deceive, or possessing an article of police uniform.
